How To Make It happen, When You're Lacking Motivation

As human beings we are all wildly intertwined. Sometimes it's personal, sometimes it's spiritual, perhaps proxemics, other relationships may be situational. Nevertheless, our relationships with others should not be used exclusively for personal gain, rather a mutual elevation: to bring out the best in others through sharing, inspiring + helping!

Question?: Are you doing your part?

One question I am asked sometimes is how do you have motivation to (fill in the blank)? Truth be told sometimes I am full of motivation, and sometimes I am NAWT!

I am starting to look at "lack of motivation" as an advantageous ebb + flow of my energy and circumstances. Each low or "rut" serve a higher purpose, whether it's for growth, discovery or restoration. Coming to realize my rhythmic pattern of energy is healthy, normal and purposeful. But please do not be confused, however, an extended low can prove to be problematic and require deeper work.

Here I will share a few tips on how to still make sh*t happen even when you're lacking motivation.

5 Ways to Make Things Happen When You're Lacking Motivation

1. What actually motivates you?? We should start here, right!? This comes with some minor self reflection by asking yourself what makes you feel proud? Perhaps it's physically completing a task(s) from a list, is it teamwork?, money, meeting goals or benchmarks, making a difference, or treating yourself to something?

Whatever serves as your motivator, make a plan to reward yourself in a way that makes sense for you to keep up!

2. Get Some Peer Pressure. Yes, yes... I know this goes against everything your parents tried to teach you back in high school, but hear me out!... Now that we're older and wiser (maybe), we can actually use of friends' influence to our benefit.

This only works if your peers or social group help to fill you up. This obviously would have the adverse affect if you feel like your friends are sucking the positive energy from you!

3. Change it up: Feeling stale in a routine is something we can often overlook. Life gets "busy", right?! For example, what was once a smooth morning routine can thing that it setting up your days to feel low energy or annoyed. Perhaps for you it might be your desk/workspace that is always cluttered because we don't have time to organize or change things up. Maybe you dine at the same places, cook the same meals, perform the same workouts, drive the same routes daily? Are you hearing this??

However you can play around with your environment + your process, DO IT! Take an alternative route to work, cook something new, wear a different style outfit/hairstyle, etc. Be bold + take an action step!

Change can be intimidating! It's often met a lot of resistance, especially when we are not the ones in control. Carpe f*cking diem and try something slightly new that!

4. Exercise: I never met a problem that a little movement couldn't fix (at least help improve)!

There's actually science to back me up here (cue the endorphins!)

Endorphins are a stress hormone that is released to reduce the feeling of pain. When you work out hard enough to fuel a stress response in your body... endorphins are released. Released endorphins are linked to increased mood + production, while lowering stress.

Regularly getting that hit of endorphins can help your body respond better to other types of stress (i.e. things that are making you procrastinate)

Even if you simply read this, maybe you try just one this week with the intention to set a little fire under your ass for that project your have been putting off?

What are you doing to get started on something when your motivation is draggin' ass ?

I want to hear from you! Share this with a friend who needs a good read ;)

Go on girl,

XO, Kat
